Touch of the Wolf by Susan Krinard

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Werewolves
Sub Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Braden Forster, Earl of Greyburn, has devoted his life to restoring the purity of his clan's werewolf blood. He spent years searching in vain for a distant American cousin, a woman whose wolf bloodline is a vital link in his family's heritage. Braden had thought Cassidy Holt was lost forever--until she appeared one rainy night on the steps of his London mansion . . . her raven hair in disarray, her skin scented with sunlight and sagebrush. As Braden whisks young Cassidy to his family's secluded country estate, both can sense their undeniable attraction. But Cassidy soon learns that they can never satisfy their mutual passion; Braden has already betrothed her to another. Her only hope of claiming the one man she'll always love is to unravel the dark and lustful secrets of his past . . .

This is the first of the Historical Werewolves series. Braden lives for his Cause, to breed a pure werewolf line. Cassidy has been longing for the moment when she can be with people of her own kind. When the two come together Braden feels that he is being given a gift for the Cause. Cassidy has no idea about his plans and believes that he wants her. The story has many twists and turns. Braden has to deal with his past and grow to realize what he can have. While Cassidy goes from being a dreamer to understanding something need actual work. I liked reading this book and will be reading the next one in the series, Once a Wolf.

Not Quite a Husband by Sherry Thomas

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Their marriage lasted only slightly longer than the honeymoon—to no one’s surprise, not even Bryony Asquith's. A man as talented, handsome, and sought after by society as Leo Marsden couldn't possibly want to spend his entire life with a woman who rebelled against propriety by becoming a doctor. Why, then, three years after their annulment and half a world away, does he track her down at her clinic in the remotest corner of India? Leo has no reason to think Bryony could ever forgive him for the way he treated her, but he won't rest until he’s delivered an urgent message from her sister—and fulfilled his duty by escorting her safely back to England. But as they risk their lives for each other on the journey home, will the biggest danger be the treacherous war around them—or their rekindling passion?

This is yet another good historical romance by Sherry Thomas. Bryony has run away from everything. Most assuredly Leo Marsden. Leo must come to deliver a message and bring her back to her sick father. Only things seem to keep getting in the way. The story is well put together. I really like that Bryony is a doctor in the late 1800’s. It makes the story quite compelling to read. The dynamic between Leo and Bryony is very entertaining. I really enjoyed reading this book.

One Night With A Prince by Sabrina Jeffries

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s, Royalty, Royal Brotherhood Trilogy
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Proper Lady Christabel, the Marchioness of Haversham, is desperate to regain some letters that could destroy her -- so desperate that she pretends to be the mistress of notorious gaming-club owner Gavin Byrne to accompany him to a scandalous house party where she can reclaim them. But when she agreed to let Byrne coach her on how a true mistress behaves, she never suspected how very...persuasive his wicked lessons would be. Gavin is secretly determined to find the letters himself and use them for revenge against the noble sire who abandoned him to grow up in London's worst slums. He's also delighted at how very successful his "mistress lessons" are: it won't be long before the luscious young widow is in his bed. But when Christabel catches Gavin in his own seductive net, he faces a difficult choice: to wreak the vengeance he's planned all his life, or to protect the woman he may -- to his own astonishment -- need more than revenge.

This is the third book in the Royal Brotherhood trilogy. Now we’ve seen Gavin in the first two books as the man that has been truly wronged by his Princely father. Now he is being asked to do something for him. He must get a woman who has shot at him into a house party. Christabel doesn’t know what she is really asking of Gavin. But as the two work together they both learn that no one should go by what they first see. Gavin is not the man that everyone believes him to be. The character is very deep and well written and keeps you guessing as to what he will do next. Chritabel is even harder to put into a neat little box. I enjoyed reading the final book in this trilogy. Sabrina Jeffries writing is highly entertaining and I am a little sad that the trilogy is over. But I most defiantly will be looking for other books by her.

His at Night by Sherry Thomas

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Love is hottest in the darkness before dawn. Elissande Edgerton is a desperate woman, a virtual prisoner in the home of her tyrannical uncle. Only through marriage can she claim the freedom she craves. But how to catch the perfect man? Lord Vere is used to baiting irresistible traps. As a secret agent for the government, he’s tracked down some of the most devious criminals in London, all the while maintaining his cover as one of Society’s most harmless—and idiotic—bachelors. But nothing can prepare him for the scandal of being ensnared by Elissande. Forced into a marriage of convenience, Elissande and Vere are each about to discover that they’re not the only one with a hidden agenda. With seduction their only weapon—and a dark secret from the past endangering both their lives—can they learn to trust each other even as they surrender to a passion that won’t be denied?

Elissande just wants to get her and herself out of her uncle’s home. Lord Vere is investigating Elissande’s uncle while holding behind his idiotic guise. But then he gets snared into marring Elissande. As the story moves forward you find that there is so much more going on then what is first seen. I loved this book for that. I liked how just when you think the story is going to go one way it turns on its ear. Vere for all his intelligence is rather dumb in matters of his own heart. I can’t wait to see what is next for Sherry Thomas as I really love her writing.

Let me know what your thoughts are.

Wicked Becomes You by Meredith Duran

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: She’s been burned not once but twice by London’s so-called gentlemen... Gwen Maudsley is pretty enough to be popular, and plenty wealthy, too. But what she’s best known and loved for is being so very, very nice. When a cad jilts her at the altar—again—the scandal has her outraged friends calling for blood. Only Gwen has a different plan. If nice no longer works for her, then it’s time to learn to be naughty. Happily, she knows the perfect tutor—Alexander Ramsey, her late brother’s best friend and a notorious rogue. So why won’t a confirmed scoundrel let her be as bad as she wants to be? Unbeknownst to Gwen, Alex’s aloof demeanor veils his deepest unspoken desire. He has no wish to see her change, nor to tempt himself with her presence when his own secrets make any future between them impossible. But on a wild romp from Paris to the Riviera, their friendship gives way to something hotter, darker, and altogether more dangerous. With Alex’s past and Gwen’s newly unleashed wildness on a collision course, Gwen must convince Alex that his wickedest intentions are exactly what she needs.

Gwen has no family after losing her brother. Now she has been jilted not once but twice on her wedding day. Now she feels that she needs to become wicked to be able to find her happiness. Alex was her brother’s best friend and is a notorious rake. But he seems to be the only one that see Gwen. The two work together for their own purposes but their relationship is changing. This is a good tale. The characters are well written. I found the story to be a little predictable at times. And there was a subplot that I didn’t quite understand the point of. But that being said I still liked the story. Alex is the one that made it. I would like to read more by Meredith Duran to see how her stories will varies.

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: He created the perfect woman… The impoverished Duke of Monchester despises the rich Americans who flock to London, seeking to buy their way into the ranks of the British peerage. So when railroad heiress Summer Wine Lee offers him a king’s ransom if he’ll teach her to become a proper lady, he’s prepared to rebuff her. But when he meets the petite beauty with the knife in her boot, it’s not her fortune he finds impossible to resist… For the arms of another man Frontier-bred Summer Wine Lee has no interest in winning over London society—it’s the New York bluebloods and her future mother-in-law she’s determined to impress. She knows the cost of smoothing her rough-and-tumble frontier edges will be high. But she never imagined it might cost her heart…

Summer comes to London to learn to be a proper lady so that she can marry into the bluebloods of New York. But she has a lot of work to do as she has grown up in the town of Tombstone. Byron hates rich Americans coming to London to marry into a title. But he himself has no money as his father depleted his holdings before his death. So they agree to work together. Only there is more going on than their lessons. This story has some great side plots that make it an even richer tale. The dialogue between the characters is wickedly sharp. I really enjoyed reading this book finding the characters believable and fun. I am truly becoming a fan of Kathryne Kennedy’s writing.

The Wolf Next Door by Lydia Dare

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s, Westfield Brothers
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Witches, Werewolves, Magic
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: They can’t even be in the same room together… Ever since a disastrous encounter on a full moon years ago, Prisca Hawthorne has taunted, insulted, and in every way tried to push him away. If only her heart didn’t break every time Lord William Westfield left her… But staying apart is even worse… Lord William throws himself into drinking, gambling, and debauchery and pretends not to care about Prisca at all. But when he returns to find a rival werewolf threatening her, he just about goes berserk… Can Prisca forgive the unforgivable, or are the mooncrossed lovers going to be forced into a battle of will that could be fatal…?

This is the third book in the Westfield Brothers trilogy. William, who we have seen before, has it bad for Prisca. But the two act like oil and water whenever they are they are together. Now things are put into motion that the two of them are thrown together. The story has quite a few twists to it. Prisca is just as much of a spit fire as she was in the first book. While William tries to play it cool and fails. I love this book just as much as the others. The good thing is that this may have started out as a trilogy about the three brothers but there is more to come. The Taming of the Wolf is the next book in the series and I can’t wait to read it.

Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Ghosts, Curses
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: The Inferno Club: In public, this scandalous society of London aristocrats is notorious for pursuing all manner of debauchery. But in private, they are warriors who would do anything to protect king and country . . . They say that the very name of Warrington is cursed . . . From a time as old as the cold stone of the duke's ancestral castle, the Warrington men have been plagued by tragedy. But Rohan Kilburn, the Duke of Warrington, has vowed to escape the predestined torment by forsaking love and devoting his life to the Inferno Club and its secret mission. And then she is brought to him unbidden by cutthroats hoping to calm the duke's infamous temper—a sacrificial virgin of sorts. But even overpowered, Kate Madsen will be no man's sacrifice. And the duke's price for claiming her may be what he has sworn never to give—the heart he has so long and fiercely guarded—to the beautiful hostage he was never meant to love.

Rohan is going to try and handle an issue that has arisen at home. When he gets there he is gifted with the beautiful Kate. Kate is scared and has no idea what or where she really is. Rohan soon learns what is going on and takes Kate under his protection. As the two work together to piece together what is underfoot they soon discover a mutual respect. I don’t want to go too much into this as I don’t want to give away what happens. Of the two books I found this to be my favorite. I love what happens. Rohan is very superstitious. While Kate is very logical and a bit of a spitfire. The whole story is brilliantly written. I can't wait to read the next book in the series, My Irresistible Earl.

Rosalind Rutherford knows full well the scandal she courts when she attempts to seduce the notorious Armond Wulf—in fact, she’s counting on it as a means to escape her sadistic stepbrother’s control. And when the opportunity arises to rescue Armond from a grim fate while changing her own, Rosalind knows she must seize it... A curse unleashed. Armond can no more ignore the Rutherford woman than his ancestor could resist the temptress who cursed the Wulf men with a terrifying transformation that occurs at the appearance of the full moon—and is set in motion by love. Especially when the reality of unquenchable desire—and certain danger—burn stronger than ever by the light of a full moon...

This is the first of the Wild Wulfs of London books. Rosalind just wants to be go back to the country and away from her horrid stepbrother. Armond doesn’t want to get married and has sworn that he would never do so along with the rest of his brothers. But everything changes as more females are found dead. But Armond is hiding something. This is one of the best historical paranormal romances that I have read. The characters are well written and you feel for them throughout the book. Armond is one who would rather make himself unhappy than to make others unhappy. Rosalind has to deal with her stepbrother but she is no delicate rose she does have a back bone. This is a very great book and I can’t read the next one in the series, The Untamed One.

The Mad, Bad Duke by Jennifer Ashley

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s, Nvengaria
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Magic, Demons, Mages
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Meagan Tavistock can easily see how Alexander earned the nickname Mad, Bad Duke. His deep blue eyes promise sinful pleasure and his rich voice intimates that as soon as they are skin to skin, he’ll fulfill desires she isn’t even aware of. When a love spell misses its intended target, Meagan can no longer resist the temptation...until the magic wears off, leaving the pair in a most compromising position. Their only option is a marriage that thrusts Meagan into a new world of high danger, dark secrets, and a passion so intense she can’t help wondering: Is it the lingering power of the spell or true love at last?

This is the second book in the Nvengaria series. It is the Meagan and Alexander’s story. Meagan goes with a friend to pick up a love spell for her friend so she can have an affair. But the spell instead brings Meagan and Alexander together. But there is more magic in play. Not including the intrigue and danger. I think I liked this book even more than the first book. There is so much going on but it flows so well together. Meagan is a great character who is strong and knows what she wants. Alexander has a few control issues as well as a secret of his own. This is one of those books that I couldn’t put down. I can’t wait to read the next book, Highlander Ever After.

Is it possible, Gentle Reader, that he has been possessed by the ghost of Lord Hamilton? If so, should I have the ghost exorcised? If I do, then Lucas will return to his old life of thievery, and I will never see him again. If I don’t, his very life may be in danger! Private Arrangements by Sherry Thomas

Genre: Historical Romance; 1800’s
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Love has designs of its own…To all of London society, Lord and Lady Tremaine had the ideal arrangement: a marriage based on civility, courteousness, and freedom – by all accounts, a perfect marriage. The reason? For the last ten years, husband and wife have resided on separate continents. But once upon a time, things were quite different for the Tremaines…When Gigi Rowland first laid eyes on Camden Saybrook, the attraction was immediate and overwhelming. But what began in a spark of passion ended in betrayal the morning after their wedding – and now Gigi wants to be free to marry again. When Camden returns from America with an outrageous demand in exchange for her freedom, Gigi’s decision will have consequences she never imagined, as secrets are exposed, desire is rekindled – and one of London’s most admired couples must either fall in love all over again…or let each other go forever.

As I have stated in previous posts I don’t read a lot of Historical Romance. For some reason this story caught my eye. Which I’m glad it did. The two main characters are constantly at one another, but the way they fight makes you feel like it's only cause they can’t truly say what they want to. Camden is smart and endearing, with wit that makes you want to listen very closely to what he is saying as you will miss something otherwise. Gigi is vivacious with a stinging tong. Her wit is just as good as Camden’s. I really enjoyed this story. For all its tit for tat, these two where really made for one another. I loved reading this book.

Green Eyes by Karen Robards

Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: He would steal her greatest jewel…Anna Traverne will never forget that evening back in England when a bold intruder stole into her chambers -- a dark and daring jewel thief who came for treasures and inflamed her passions with a brazen caress. She thwarted the dashing rogue then. But now Julian Chase has followed her halfway around the world. Julian has come to take what he believes is rightfully his. And he has vowed to have his tender, sensuous revenge on the enchanting, silver-blond angel who robbed him of his birthright ... and purloined his heart in a single, unparalleled moment.

As she is running from her brother-in-law back to the place that she considers home, with Julian soon to follow. The story is interesting as it is fast paced and keeps moving. It’s one of those books that you can pick up for a quick read. I liked it but there were a few times that I didn’t understand why something  was going on. It didn’t add anything to the story. But if you’re looking for something historical it’s a good read.

What woman would dare refuse the most sought-after lover in Europe? Miss Twice-a-Jilt Penelope Trask, that’s who. And, unfortunately for Damien, marrying Penelope was only way to inherit his kingdom. Good thing this enchantingly infuriating woman didn’t seem completely immune to his many charms. The passionate way she returned his kisses told Damien he wasn’t the only one head over heels. But wooing was difficult amid assassination attempts, wild magic, and desire so strong it threatened to overwhelm him every time they touched. Why had no one mentioned the road to happily-ever-after was so difficult?

This is the first book in the Nvengaria series. Penelope has had to jilt two men in the past after finding out what they really wanted out of marriage. Damien is trying to fulfill a prophecy and help to save his kingdom. What the two aren’t prepared for is falling in love. The story is a great weaving of both historical storytelling and an added paranormal magical twist. The world is well built. The characters you can’t help but to fall in love with. Even the when you think that you know where the story was going it changed. I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, The Mad, Bad Duke.

Back Cover: To restore family honor the Marquess of Rotherstone faces his most dangerous mission—finding the perfect bride . . . To London's aristocracy, the Inferno Club is a scandalous society of men no proper young lady would acknowledge. But though they are publicly notorious for pursuing all manner of debauchery, in private they are warriors who would do anything to protect king and country. The Marquess of Rotherstone has decided it's time to restore the family's good name. But as a member of the Inferno Club, he knows there is only one way to redeem himself in Society's eyes: marry a lady of impeccable beauty and breeding, whose reputation is, above all, spotless. Someone quite unlike Daphne Starling. True, she's temptingly lovely, but a jilted suitor has nearly ruined her reputation. Still, Max cannot resist her allure—or the challenge of proving London's gossips wrong. He would do anything to win her hand . . . and show that even a wicked marquess can make a perfect husband.

In this first book to the Inferno Club series, we meet Max who’s reputation isn’t the cleanest. And being in the Inferno Club does not help matters as it is known of its debauchery. But infact he is the kind of person who is a planer. And I’m not just talking about his finances or his house hold. He plans everything and tries to get it down to the last detail. Daphne likes how her life is, even though a jilted suitor has sullied her reputation.  But this only makes Max intrigued as he is looking for a wife. There is so much going on in this story. Just when you think you might know where things are going things get changed. You get to learn about the true Inferno Club and some of its members. I found the story beautifully written and captivating, leaving me wanting to read more. I look forward to reading the next book in the series, My Dangerous Duke.
