Infamous by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy, Gods, Vampires, Time Travel, Were-People, Demons, Magic
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: The world has fallen in love with Nick Gautier and the Dark-Hunters. Now Nick’s saga continues in the next eagerly anticipated volume... Go to school. Get good grades. Stay out of trouble. That’s the mandate for most kids. But Nick Gautier isn’t the average teenager. He’s a boy with a destiny not even he fully understands. And his first mandate is to stay alive while everyone, even his own father, tries to kill him. He’s learned to annihilate zombies and raise the dead, divination and clairvoyance, so why is learning to drive and keep a girlfriend so dang hard? But that isn’t the primary skill he has to master. Survival is. And in order to survive, his next lesson makes all the others pale in comparison. He is on the brink of becoming either the greatest hero mankind has ever known. Or he’ll be the one who ends the world. With enemies new and old gathering forces, he will have to call on every part of himself to fight or he’ll lose everyone he cares about. Even himself.

This is the third book in the Chronicles of Nick. In this book there is so much going on and it doesn’t help when he gets in trouble with his mom. This is one of those books that once you start it you can’t put it down. Learning more about what is going on and some of the changes that are taking place because of things being changed by future Nick’s tampering. So much is going on including see more of his father. I really like were this story is going and how it show some of the characters that we have grown to love in a whole new light. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series, Inferno.

I personally think of it as all part of the Dark Hunter world. This is great that they have put the majority of the short stories all together in one book. I will not go into each of these short stories as there are 13 different stories with in. I love this book and can’t wait to read the next book in this series, Dance with the Devil.

Invincible by Sherrilyn Kenyon

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy, Gods, Vampires, Time Travel, Were-People, Demons, Magic
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Nick Gautier’s day just keeps getting better and better. Yeah, he survived the zombie attacks, only to wake up and find himself enslaved to a world of shapeshifters and demons out to claim his soul. His new principal thinks he’s even more of a hoodlum than the last one, his coach is trying to recruit him to things he can’t even mention and the girl he’s not seeing, but is, has secrets that terrify him. But more than that, he’s being groomed by the darkest of powers and if he doesn’t learn how to raise the dead by the end of the week, he will become one of them...

This is the second book in the Chronicles of Nick. Nick is hoping life will start to normalize, even though he is now working for a vampire and his mom is working for shapeshifters. Then there is a coach that wants to befriend Nick which is a little weird. There is so much going on in this book and you begin to see how dynamic this world is. Nick is growing as a character and you see a little bit of the character that he becomes in the adult series. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, Infamous.

Persistence of Memory by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Magic, Vampires, Were-people, Witches, Mental illness
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Sixteen-year-old Erin Misrahe just wants to be like everyone else in her new school. But Erin has more to worry about than passing AP Chemistry and making friends. In times of stress, she has always been overcome by her alter ego, Shevaun, whose violent behavior wreaks havoc on those around her. Erin can never remember anything about these episodes, and she’s grateful to have been spared them for a while. But when a protective old friend comes back into Erin’s life, he insists that Shevaun is a vampire who actually exists apart from Erin. Shevaun has dangerous allies, like the handsome witch Adjila – and they’re determined to sever Shevaun’s connection to Erin once and for all.

This story is of a girl that things that she is crazy. And is trying to become someone who can go to a normal school for the first time. But as it happens there are other things going on that she has no knowledge about. Like the things that go bump in the night are real. I don’t want to ruin the story as there is a lot that is discovered both about Erin and her friends. Needless to say there is magic, vampires, were-people and witches all involved. It is a good story. I enjoyed reading it and wouldn’t mind reading more of this world even if they don’t revisit the same characters.

Captivate by Carrie Jones

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy; Pixie, Fairy, Elves, Valkyries, and Were-People
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Zara and her friends knew they hadn’t solved the pixie problem for good. Far from it. The king’s needs grow deeper every day he’s stuck in captivity, while his control over his pixies gets weaker. So when a new, younger pixie king shows up, war is imminent. The new king, Astley, claims he’s not evil, that his pixies can coexist peacefully with humans and weres. Zara’s boyfriend, Nick, isn’t buying it; no pixie could possibly be a good guy. But Zara is half pixie herself, and she is just starting to think Astley could be right when Astley lets her in on another secret: he believes Zara’s relationship with Nick is about to come to an end – and that she is fated to be his queen…

This book takes up soon after Need had ended. Zara and her friends are still on the lookout for pixies. Then when Astley shows up things really start to happen, and as he even says he will only be the first. There are a lot of new aspects to this story that show up like Valkyries and Elves. But it only adds to the story. I was on the edge of my seat while reading this and couldn’t put it down. It’s really that good. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, Entice.

Tantalize by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy; Vampires & Were-People
Rating: 3 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: CLASSIFIED ADS: RESTAURANTS SANGUINI'S: A VERY RARE RESTAURANT IS HIRING A CHEF DE CUISINE. DINNERS ONLY. APPLY IN PERSON BETWEEN 2:00 AND 4:00 PM. Quincie Morris has never felt more alone. Her parents are dead, and her hybrid-werewolf first love is threatening to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. Then, as she and her uncle are about to unveil their hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef. Can Quincie transform their new hire into a culinary Dark Lord before opening night? Can he wow the crowd in his fake fangs, cheap cape, and red contact lenses -- or is there more to this earnest face than meets the eye? As human and preternatural forces clash, a deadly love triangle forms, and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who’s playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything?

Now I will be the first one to read any vampire or were-person story, I have to. This story blurred the line between Young Adult and Urban Fantasy. Quincie seemed much older than her teen age years. Even with the whole growing up fast due to her circumstances. I have to say that I found this story lacking slightly. There are some great scenes that draw you in from time to time. But overall it left with something missing. I am looking forward to see where Cynthia may be going with this as it didn’t seem to be the end of the story for Quincie. If you want a quick read that has some cooking to it then this may be right up your ally. I for one thought it was ok, but not a keeper. Defiantly want to read the next book in this series, Eternal.
