Dakin is a young woman who hears the call of the farthest-away mountain. She goes to find out what is there. As this is a short book I worry about giving to much away so I will not go in depth over this story. It is brilliantly written and keeps you guessing what will happen through out the story. I loved Dakin and how strong she is. This is one of my favorite stories that I have ever read.

However, once she gets to her new country and a very different life, she begins to find it stimulating and enjoyable. A strange relationship with Palestinian boy Mustafa, who lives on the other side of the Jordan river, is a big part of the new Lesley. A very exciting book, set in the 1960s about life in a pioneering new country.

Lesley has been trying to get her parents to go on a Jewish ski trip for years. But instead her father decides to move the whole family to Israel. She feels that this is a bit extreme. Now she has to change the way she has been living her life. She has to learn more than just the language but also the customs. This is a great story showing how a teenager has to deal with a whole new life. I found that it was inventive take. Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series, Broken Bridge.

This story is actually more for Middle Grade, but it is one of those that you can’t help but to love. Jan believes that she will not be able to have a child. Then one day in her garden she meets Tiki. The two become friends and Tiki helps Jan so that she can have a baby. This is only the beginning of the story. I don’t want to give too much away so I won’t go say any more. It’s a great mother daughter story, with lots of magic. I grew up with this book and read it so many times that my copy was destroyed. I love the story if you hadn’t guessed. To this day I still love to pick it up from time to time.
