The Wicked and the Wondrous by Christine Feehan

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Witches, Magic, Ghosts
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Two romantic tales of dark forces and Christmas miracles… The Twilight Before Christmas. Bestselling novelist Kate Drake, one of seven sisters with amazing powers of witchcraft, wants to open a bookstore in a charming but run-down mill in her California hometown. Decorated former U.S. Army Ranger Matt Granite, now a contractor, doesn’’t mind helping – and getting closer to Kate. But when an earthquake exposes a crypt in the mill’s foundation, a centuries-old evil threatens to destroy both Christmas and the gift of soul-searing passion Kate’’s hometown hero wants her to keep forever… After the Music. Terrified by mysterious threats, Jessica Fitzpatrick takes her twin wards to the island mansion of their estranged father, Dillon Wentworth, a famous musician who shut out the world after a fire claimed his wife’’s life and left him disfigured. With Christmas approaching, the spark between Dillon and Jessica might light the future, but the evil machinations of those who share his wife’s love of the occult may plunge the family into darkness – unless a Christmas miracle occurs…

We celebrate the a small tradition at Moonlight Reads called Christmas in July and this year we thought we would do a Christmas Post on our day of celebrations. This is two great Christmas tales. Twilight Before Christmas is a story of Kate from the Drake sisters. The writer come home to start her own bookstore. But after an earthquake something comes out that she has and her sisters have to take care. All the while Matt who has held a candle for her finally begins to let her know it. Then in After the Music Jessica goes home to Dillon’s solitude island. Not telling anyone that she was coming with Dillon’s twin children in tow. Both stories have their own amount of danger, suspense, magic, and yes even Christmas. I really like it and think it is the perfect book for Christmas Holiday.

Succubi Like It Hot by Jill Myles

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Succubi, Vampires, Angels, Serim, The Succubus Diaries, Warlocks, Voodoo, Demons, Incubi
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Nobody said sucking was easy. With a hot new figure, her dream job as an archaeologist, and two gorgeous boyfriends to scratch her seductive Itch -- an angel and a vampire -- Jackie Brighton is totally getting the hang of life as a succubus. Then she accidentally knocks the pizza guy unconscious with her touch. Great -- she's cursed. After striking a deal to get the curse lifted by a crafty demon, Jackie and her best friend Remy take a road trip to deliver a cryptic message to the nation's oldest succubus. Unfortunately, neither of her jealous lovers is talking to Jackie right now, and due to the curse, she's desperate to get her Itch scratched very soon. Their journey gets weirder with every mile -- demonic possession, a charming stalker, a cryptic warning -- and when they get to New Orleans, Jackie discovers a dangerous catch to her supernatural bargain. Someone wants her dead -- again. Can a brainy vixen in a miniskirt outsmart the forces of evil?

This is the second book in the Succubus Diaries. Jackie is getting things together with her work but her personal life isn’t doing so well. But when her powers start doing some weird thing she has to figure things out. And it seems that she has to do it on her own as the men in her life have kind of having issues. So she and Remy go on a road trip to find a cure. This book takes place about a month after the first one. The characters are still trying their best in the situation that they find themselves. The story is fun and you are trying to figure out who is causing the most trouble. I really like this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series, My Fair Succubi.

Gentlemen Prefer Succubi by Jill Myles

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Succubi, Vampires, Angels, Serim, The Succubus Diaries
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Who knew an angel could get a girl in so much devilish trouble? Jackie Brighton woke up in a dumpster this morning, and her day has only gotten weirder. Her familiar B-cups have somehow become double Ds, her sex drive is insatiable, and apparently she had her first one-night stand ever… with a fallen angle. All she remembers is gorgeous Noah’s oddly hypnotic blue eyes…and then a dark stranger whose bite transformed her into an immortal siren with a sexy Itch. With help from Noah, Jackie begins to adapt to her new lifestyle – until she accidentally sends Noah into the deadly clutches of the vampire queen and lands herself in a fierce battle for an ancient halo with the queen’s wickedly hot right-hand man. Who just happens to be the vampire who originally bit her. How’s a girl supposed to save the world when the enemy’s so hard to resist?

This is the first book in the Succubus Diaries. Jackie wakes up in a dumpster to have her whole life turned upside down. After a few mistakes she’s upset an angel and the queen of vampires. Now she’s off to find a halo which she doesn’t want to give to either side. The characters are brilliant. I love that you have the museum tour guide, sexy fallen angel, sexy vampire and a porn star succubus you can’t go wrong. The story was well written and you didn’t feel like it was being dumbed down so you understand the world’s rules. I really liked the way the different species have their own little issues regarding sleep. I really loved this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series, Succubi Like It Hot.

A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole

Genre: Paranormal Romance; Valkyries, Vampires, Werewolves, Immortals After Dark
Sub Genre: Urban Fantasy
Rating: 4 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: A mythic warrior who’ll stop at nothing to possess her… After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find that predestined mate he’s waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie /half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him. A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy… Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents – until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae – and their notorious dark desires – ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings. An all-consuming desire. . . Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desires deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

This adds a new element to the paranormal, the Valkyries. Emma goes in search of her parents but what she finds is Lachlain. There is a lot of action going on as vampires are trying to get to Emma so they can claim leadership. The Valkyries are involved as Emma is their niece. It’s one of those books that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. I found the story to be very inventive putting together different paranormals that we haven’t seen together. The way Emma matures from being a very sheltered individual to someone who takes charge of her own life was brilliant. I enjoyed reading this book very much.
