Emerald House Rising by Peg Kerr

Genre: Fantasy; Magic, Wizards
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: The wizard of gems. A gemcutter’s daughter, Jena yearns to create jewelry for the Diadem Court – until the night a mysterious noble appears, wearing a ring only Jena can see. Its touch transports her to a distant fortress, where Jena learns that she possesses incredible, undreamt-of magical powers. Now, faced with a murderous plot for control of the Adamant Throne, Jena must master two sources of wonder. For only a wizard can wield the magic able to save the Diadem, and only a gemcutter can cleave the facets of sorcery that threaten to shatter the world. But only a woman can see the truth through a binding prism of ambition and fate…

This is one of those great fantasy stories that sticks with you. It has all the great plot twists, with magic, intrigue, and court dynamics. Jena is your unlikely heroin who is learning all about magic on the fly. Her only dream was to be a gemcutter and marry her tailor boyfriend. Then she finds herself far from home and not quite sure how she got there or how she is going to get home. She also has to find Lord Morgan, which turns out to be quite an interesting feet. But with the help of her new allies they are able to work wondrous magic. I loved this story the first time I read it. I found that it was one of those books that you just couldn’t put down. And have recommended it to many people who love fantasy.
