Back Cover: In a town with no
surprises, one secret could change everything. Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone
the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she’s struggling to
conceal her power and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But
even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps, and crumbling graveyards of the
forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever. Ethan Wate, who has been
counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a
beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town’s oldest and
most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to
uncover the connection between them.
This is a story of small towns, magic and the south. Ethan
has been in Gatlin his whole life and he just can’t wait to leave. But when
Lena comes he can’t help but be drawn to her. Wanting to first befriend her and
then protect her. The story has many characters and taking glimpses of the past
looking at both of the main characters ancestors. It is a well written story.
The characters not only learn about themselves but their families as well. I
really enjoyed this story, and am looking forward to watching the movie once it
comes out Feb. 14, 2013. I can't wait to read the next book in this series, Beautiful
Darkness.
