The Candidates by Inara Scott

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; People with Abilities, Delcroix Academy
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Dancia Lewis is far from popular. And that's not just because of her average grades or her less-than-glamorous wardrobe. In fact, Dancia's mediocrity is a welcome cover for her secret: whenever she sees a person threatening someone she cares about, things just...happen. Cars skid. Structures collapse. Usually someone gets hurt.  So Dancia does everything possible to avoid getting close to anyone, belieiving this way she can supress her powers and keep them hidden. But when recruiters from the prestigious Delcroix Academy show up in her living room to offer her a full scholarship, Dancia's days of living under the radar may be over. Only, Delcroix is a school for diplomats' kids and child geniuses--not B students with uncontrollable telekinetic tendencies.  So why are they treating Dancia like she's special? Even the hottest guy on campus seems to be going out of his way to make Dancia feel welcome. And then there's her mysterious new friend Jack, who can't stay out of trouble. He suspects something dangerous is going on at the Academy and wants Dancia to help him figure out what.  But Dancia isn't convinced. She hopes that maybe the recruiters know more about her "gift" than they're letting on. Maybe they can help her understand how to use it...But not even Dancia could have imagined what awaits her behind the gates of Delcroix Academy.

This is the first book in the Delcroix Academy series. Dancia has been trying to just get by and not be noticed. She knows that there is something very different about her and she doesn’t want others to know about it at all. But after something that happened at the hospital she has gotten the attention of the Delcroix Academy. Now things are changing and fast. Dancia isn’t quite sure what to make of everything that is going on. But she has friends and she isn’t sure what to make of that. Dancia is a great character who you can’t help but feel for. And the supporting characters are brilliant. Jake is your bad boy that you can’t help but love. There is so much going on that you won’t want to put this book down once you start reading it. I truly love this book and can’t wait to read the next one in the series, The Marked.

Spell Bound by Rachel Hawkins

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Demons, Witches, Magic, Faeries, Shifters, Vampires, Warlocks, Werewolves
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Hailed as “impossible to put down,” the Hex Hall series has both critics and teens cheering. With a winning combination of romance, action, magic and humor, this third volume will leave readers enchanted. Just as Sophie Mercer has come to accept her extraordinary magical powers as a demon, the Prodigium Council strips them away. Now Sophie is defenseless, alone, and at the mercy of her sworn enemies—the Brannicks, a family of warrior women who hunt down the Prodigium. Or at least that’s what Sophie thinks, until she makes a surprising discovery. The Brannicks know an epic war is coming, and they believe Sophie is the only one powerful enough to stop the world from ending. But without her magic, Sophie isn’t as confident. Sophie’s bound for one hell of a ride—can she get her powers back before it’s too late?

This is the third book in the Hex Hall series. Sophie is powerless and sent to Brannicks by Cal. Not knowing what has happened to everyone that she loves she has no idea what she is in store for. This is a story that answers so many questions about this series. It brings all your favorite character's together. Sophie isn't as snarky in this book but she is strong willed and knows her own mind. There are many surprises and twists within this book. Once I started reading it I couldn't put it down. I loved reading this book and I can't wait to read the spin-off series, School Spirits.

Demonglass by Rachel Hawkins

Genre: Young Adult
Sub Genre: Paranormal Romance; Demons, Witches, Magic, Faeries, Shifters, Vampires, Warlocks, Werewolves
Rating: 5 out of 5 Stars

Back Cover: Sophie Mercer thought she was a witch. That was the whole reason she was sent to Hex Hall, a reform school for delinquent Prodigium (aka witches, shapeshifters, and fairies). But that was before she discovered the family secret, and that her hot crush, Archer Cross, is an agent for The Eye, a group bent on wiping Prodigium off the face of the earth. Turns out, Sophie’s a demon, one of only two in the world—the other being her father. What’s worse, she has powers that threaten the lives of everyone she loves. Which is precisely why Sophie decides she must go to London for the Removal, a dangerous procedure that will destroy her powers. But once Sophie arrives she makes a shocking discovery. Her new friends? They’re demons too. Meaning someone is raising them in secret with creepy plans to use their powers, and probably not for good. Meanwhile, The Eye is set on hunting Sophie down, and they’re using Archer to do it. But it’s not like she has feelings for him anymore. Does she?

This is the second book in the Hex Hall series. Sophie goes to spend the summer with her father, with her friends Cal and Jenna. But nothing is as it seems. Sophie has a feeling that something isn't quite right. Archer reappears again to a very shaky alliance. This makes for brilliant writing. All our favorite characters are back and we have new ones as well in Daisy, Nick and Lara. Sophie is strong in this story as well. Cal and Archer are brilliant. Archer's dialog with Sophie is great. I loved this book and can't wait to read the next book in the series, Spell Bound.
